HDA activities

HDA's activities include the following:

  • Providing a meeting place for those involved in health development assistance to help develop the skills and improve the effectiveness of their joint projects;
  • Organising forums, workshops and other events to deepen knowledge and understanding of health aid in the Australian community;
  • Contribute to the development of programs that provide support to aid workers before, during and after their overseas work;
  • Bringing together organisations which provide training to overseas health workers and contribute to the development of educational, training and support programs;
  • Assist professional nursing, medical and other health organisations in informing their members about health development assistance and thereby stimulating increased involvement among the health care community;
  • Developing a database of health personnel interested in contributing to health aid development;
  • Disseminating information about the health aid and particular organisations and projects involved in it;
  • Developing codes of conduct and ethics for health care professionals and researchers; and
  • Contributing to the development of new health aid projects that support community involvement and sustainable capacity enhancement.
